5. Content Concerns and Removal
5.1 Where to send a concern
Write to the parish office, or to the parish office at 2900 Olney Sandy Spring Rd, Olney, MD 20832, marked for the attention of the OCIA coordinator.
This covers anything published on this site: text, photographs, catechetical material, recordings, or a page naming a person who would rather it did not.
You do not need to prove anything before writing to us. If material here is yours and we should not be using it, saying so is enough to get it looked at.
5.2 What to include
Nothing here is a required form. It is what lets us act on the same day rather than writing back to ask:
- A link to the page, and enough description to find the specific item — “the third photograph”, “the paragraph beginning…”
- What the material is, and what your connection to it is.
- What you would like to happen: removal, a credit, or a licence discussed.
- How to reach you.
5.3 What we do
On receiving a concern we will:
- acknowledge it;
- remove or hide the material while we look at it, where the concern is credible on its face — we would rather take something down for a week and be wrong than leave it up for a month and be right;
- tell whoever posted or prepared it, so they can respond;
- tell you what we decided and why, whether that is removal, a credit, a licence, or an explanation of why we believe the use is permitted.
Where material turns out to be licensed to us and the credit line was missing or wrong, we will correct the credit rather than quietly delete the page.
5.4 If you think we got it wrong
If we removed something of yours and you believe that was a mistake, write back and say so. Explain why you think the material was yours to post, or why the use was permitted, and we will look again. If we agree, it goes back up.
Neither of us needs to escalate a disagreement about a parish catechetical page. If it cannot be settled between us, both of us keep whatever rights we have; nothing on this page limits them.
5.5 Good faith
Please only raise a concern about material you actually have some claim to, or a genuine reason to want removed. A notice sent to harass someone, or to suppress something you simply dislike, wastes the time of people running a parish programme in their evenings.
We will document notices that appear to be sent in bad faith, and we may decline to act on further ones from the same source.
5.6 Repeated infringement
Where somebody with an account here repeatedly posts material that is not theirs, we will warn them, then suspend, then close the account.
Closing a portal account is an administrative act about a website. It is not a sacramental or disciplinary act, and it does not exclude anyone from parish life or from the Church.
5.7 Material you submit
Material you upload or submit remains yours. By submitting it you allow the Parish to store and use it solely to administer the Program, and you confirm that it is yours to submit and that it infringes no one else’s rights.
Do not upload anything you do not have the right to upload — copyrighted study material from a publisher, another parish’s materials, or content from a paid course or subscription service.
5.8 Asking to be removed
A concern does not have to be about copyright. If you appear in a photograph here, or are named on a page, and would rather not be, say so and we will remove it. You do not have to give a reason.
For your own records held by the parish rather than published on the site, see the Privacy Notice §2.9.
We can only act on what we control. Material already printed, or already copied elsewhere by other people, is beyond our reach, and we would rather say so than promise otherwise.
